Java Developer

Role Overview

Allied Consultants is seeking an experienced Java Developer (Software Developer III) to join a high-impact technical services team. The work is remote.

Responsibilities

• Oversee coding, testing, and debugging based on technical and functional requirements.
• Prepare test data and production run instructions/manuals for end users.
• Create flowcharts/diagrams and detailed analyses, plans, verification procedures for existing and proposed applications.
• Lead research and analysis for project proposals, software/system modifications, and new projects.
• Analyze applications for equipment requirements/capabilities; evaluate database schemas.
• Write and run SQL, deploy packages/triggers, and review/revise programs to improve efficiency or adapt to new procedures.
• Troubleshoot by analyzing logs, system messages, thread connectivity, memory usage, and disk I/O/space.
• Coordinate programming projects by conferring with staff and tracking assigned work.
• Develop standards and procedures for programming staff and related interfaces/reports.
• Develop specialized programs to enhance systems software; recommend and implement performance improvements.
• Create and maintain backup/restore processes to ensure business continuity.

Requirements

• 15+ years Java experience.
• 10+ years SQL database experience.
• 8+ years sustaining and development experience supporting large applications in a team environment.
• 5+ years experience in sustaining/development roles supporting large applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years Atlassian tool suite (especially Jira) and Agile methodology.
• 2+ years experience with State of Texas applications, including a Texas Department of Public Safety environment.
• Experience transitioning applications from legacy mainframe environments to Java/SQL.
