Java Developer - AI (Backend)

Role Overview

Senior Java Backend Engineer (AI) at CloudDevs, building scalable, AI-driven platform capabilities in a high-ownership environment. You’ll partner with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver production-grade backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend systems with high reliability and performance
• Develop clean, maintainable, well-tested code using modern engineering practices
• Use AI-assisted coding tools to improve development speed, debugging, and code quality
• Collaborate in Agile workflows (code reviews, sprint ceremonies)
• Investigate and resolve production issues using logs, telemetry, and system insights
• Continuously improve systems, code quality, and development processes

Requirements (Minimum)

• 7+ years of commercial experience as a backend/software engineer
• Strong English communication skills
• Strong problem-solving ability and an ownership mindset
• Experience working in distributed, remote teams

Core Requirements

• Java experience in SaaS/PaaS environments (7+ years)
• Strong experience with Spring / Spring Boot, Maven, and ORM frameworks
• Design and build secure, scalable REST APIs (API-first preferred)
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and AWS infrastructure
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and production observability
• Excellent debugging and production troubleshooting skills

AI / Modern Dev Workflow (Important)

• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Codex, or similar)
• Comfortable using AI copilots and agent-style workflows
• Ability to use AI tools to navigate unfamiliar codebases and debug quickly

Preferred Qualifications

• Python for backend/API development
• Frontend exposure with React
• Strong architectural thinking and system design skills
• Experience in fast-paced environments with rapid release cycles

• Remote within LatAm or anywhere in the Americas (Canada, Central & South America)
