About the role
Java Backend Engineer (Remote-first)
Build and maintain high-performance, scalable backend systems for mission-critical, data-intensive applications. You’ll design low-latency, high-availability services, work on distributed architectures, and support production reliability through incident response and performance improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and high-performance applications.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs and distributed microservices with a focus on reliability, scalability, and low latency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, improving system stability and continuous performance.
- Contribute to system design specifications, architectural decisions, and technical documentation.
- Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product and engineering) to deliver new features and platform improvements.
- Work on data processing and event-driven systems, including streaming technologies.
- Improve backend infrastructure, including CI/CD, Kubernetes environments, and cloud deployments.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend software engineering experience building large-scale production systems.
- Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including multithreading/concurrency.
- Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Experience with MySQL and Cassandra (relational and NoSQL).
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Familiarity with data processing/streaming frameworks such as Kafka, Airflow, Spark, or Hadoop.
- Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Git and Jenkins.
- Exposure to Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and production performance optimization skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with event-driven architectures and large-scale production reliability practices.
