About the role

Java Backend Engineer (Remote-first)

Build and maintain high-performance, scalable backend systems for mission-critical, data-intensive applications. You’ll design low-latency, high-availability services, work on distributed architectures, and support production reliability through incident response and performance improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and high-performance applications.
  • Build and enhance RESTful APIs and distributed microservices with a focus on reliability, scalability, and low latency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, improving system stability and continuous performance.
  • Contribute to system design specifications, architectural decisions, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product and engineering) to deliver new features and platform improvements.
  • Work on data processing and event-driven systems, including streaming technologies.
  • Improve backend infrastructure, including CI/CD, Kubernetes environments, and cloud deployments.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend software engineering experience building large-scale production systems.
  • Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot, including multithreading/concurrency.
  • Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
  • Experience with MySQL and Cassandra (relational and NoSQL).
  • Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Familiarity with data processing/streaming frameworks such as Kafka, Airflow, Spark, or Hadoop.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Git and Jenkins.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and production performance optimization skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with event-driven architectures and large-scale production reliability practices.
