IT Team Manager (DevOps) (m/f/x)

Role overview

Lead PPG’s DevOps organization and manage a distributed global team of DevOps engineers. You will define and architect deployment automation and cloud infrastructure management for a portfolio of cloud applications, ensuring efficient CI/CD pipelines and reliable releases.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach a global team of ~15 DevOps engineers across multiple geographies.
• Develop and implement DevOps and DevSecOps strategies aligned to company goals.
• Establish and maintain best practices for:
  • Infrastructure automation
  • CI/CD, deployments, and release management
  • Monitoring and operational excellence
• Build and evangelize a Community of Practices (CoP) across DevOps topics (e.g., deployment methods, branching strategies).
• Drive automation to streamline operations (infrastructure provisioning, release notes, configuration management, deployment processes).
• Ensure DevOps metrics targets are met and DevOps guidelines remain up to date.
• Reduce technical backlog through targeted automation and process improvements.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve software delivery.
• Participate in recruiting IT support personnel.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, security policies, and SOX-related activities; provide required 24/7 coverage.
• Communicate clearly with managers and ensure procedures and work instructions are efficient and non-redundant.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/IT (or equivalent experience).
• 2+ years experience as a Developer and/or DevOps engineer.
• Strong DevOps tooling expertise including:
  • Docker, Kubernetes
  • Terraform
  • Git
  • Azure DevOps
  • Scripting and CI/CD workflows
• Strong experience building and maintaining CI/CD in Azure Pipelines.
• Experience driving DevOps culture and change across organizations.
• Strong monitoring and logging experience (e.g., Application Insights, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, and mentions of Waterfall).
• Demonstrated leadership and project management experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively under pressure.

Nice to have / implied

• Background in DevSecOps and security policy/SOX compliance activities.
• Experience organizing 24/7 support coverage and managing stakeholders across technical and management teams.
