iOS Engineer (Swift and Objective-C)

Role Overview

Remote, hourly-paid contractor iOS Engineer role with SME Careers. You will review AI-generated iOS code and technical explanations, produce high-quality reference implementations, and help validate and rank AI responses for correctness and reasoning quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop AI Training Content: Create detailed iOS prompts and write reference answers across iOS topics.
• Optimize AI Performance: Assess and rate/compare multiple AI responses to improve correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Ensure Model Integrity: Fact-check outputs and validate reliability against real-world iOS scenarios.
• Code/Architecture Review: Evaluate AI solutions for issues in UIKit/SwiftUI, concurrency, memory management (ARC), threading, app lifecycle, networking, persistence, and build/release practices.
• Explain Best Practices: Produce clear, step-by-step reasoning and model solutions demonstrating engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of production iOS development experience, with Swift and ideally Objective-C.
• Expert Swift proficiency (Swift 5+), including value/reference semantics, generics, protocols, and modern language features.
• Strong iOS fundamentals: app lifecycle, view/controller architecture, navigation, state management, background execution constraints.
• Solid concurrency knowledge: GCD, OperationQueue, and async/await; ability to reason about race conditions and thread safety.
• Strong ARC/memory expertise: retain cycles, weak/unowned references, leaks; Instruments experience.
• Networking & data: URLSession, JSON parsing, caching, retries, offline strategies; persistence with Core Data / SQLite / Realm.
• Testing & quality: XCTest, UI testing, mocking strategies; CI/CD (Fastlane a plus) and App Store release hygiene.
• Security awareness: Keychain, transport security, auth flows, privacy permissions, sensitive data handling.
• C1 English proficiency and ability to write clear technical explanations following English guidelines.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AI data training/annotation or evaluating AI-generated technical content.
