Intermediate Estimator

Role: Intermediate Estimator

In partnership with the estimating team and in collaboration with various departments, the Estimator gathers and evaluates bid documents and related drawings/specifications to prepare accurate estimates for precast/prestressed concrete work.

Responsibilities

• Review bid documents including specifications, drawings, addendums, bid alternates, and (if noted) delivery dates and bid closing dates
• Prepare bid submission materials (quotation letter, bid forms, pricing for bid alternates, and bid schedules)
• Coordinate sending/receiving estimating documents with subcontractors and vendors
• Create material take-offs and cost estimates accurately and on time to meet bid deadlines
• Use estimating/organizational software to manage data and retrieve information effectively
• Review and assess proposed estimates and submission documents with Sales and Management
• Support departmental targets within targeted budgets by meeting project completion deadlines
• Communicate effectively across departments and the plant to propose solutions that optimize production and efficiency
• Represent the department and company professionally with internal and external customers

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in civil engineering/engineering technology (or similar)
• Architectural or estimating experience
• Construction industry experience
• Minimum 3 years of estimating experience
• Ability to read and interpret drawings across all disciplines
• Fluent with Microsoft Office (for estimating and reporting)
• Strong math skills, including metric-to-imperial conversions
• Technologically inclined; software/data/reporting experience is an asset (e.g., Excel, Tekla)
• Strong attention to detail, time management, organization, and ability to work under pressure

Nice-to-haves

• Exposure to the precast concrete industry
• Experience reading precast shop drawings, specifications, and related technical documents
