About the role

Role Overview

Human Resources Operations Manager (Remote) is a remote role supporting California restaurant operators. You’ll align business objectives with HR support and partner with Operations, Finance, IT, and Marketing to deliver effective HR services for hourly and management team members.

This is one-person HR (you will run day-to-day HR operations) and you must speak Spanish and be able to travel to the Bay Area ~6x/year for 1–2 weeks at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Understand business strategy and recommend HR policies, procedures, and continuous improvements
  • Use and interpret HR and business metrics to spot trends, solve problems, and drive change
  • Serve as a trusted advisor/coach on change management, team effectiveness, and leadership development
  • Lead day-to-day HR operations including:
    • Employee relations and investigations
    • Unemployment and worker’s compensation administration
    • Compliance with company policies and procedures
    • Training and staffing support
    • Safety and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
  • Partner with restaurant management and the Executive Team on HR issues, policy adherence, and communications
  • Advise management on coaching, performance improvement plans, discipline, and termination processes (hourly + management)
  • Research and apply local, state, and federal employment laws (especially CA employment law) and recommend policy updates
  • Manage workers’ compensation workflow (inquiries, documentation, wage statements, return-to-work process)
  • Facilitate the interactive process for accommodation requests
  • Recruit store-level and management roles
  • Run payroll with Paylocity
  • Collect, analyze, and distribute HR data/reports (turnover, vacancies, field bonus, management reports)
  • Conduct and document exit interviews and identify trends
  • Perform HRIS/payroll data entry tasks (uploading documents, approving transfers/promotions)
  • Deliver in-person and remote training (e.g., D&I and harassment prevention)

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Minimum 2+ years strategic partnership experience
  • Minimum 2+ years recruiting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or a Master’s degree in a related field required
  • Strong working knowledge across multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices (and other HR areas)
  • Spanish required
  • Ability to travel to the Bay Area ~6 times/year (1–2 weeks per trip)
  • Must be well versed in California employment law or able to quickly learn
