About the role
Role Overview
The Regional HR Manager for United Rentals’ Mobile Storage Region executes the regional HR plan to drive operational excellence, employee satisfaction, profitability achievement, and business growth. Reporting to the Human Resource Director (with a dotted line to the Specialty Region Vice President), this role provides HR expertise across employee relations, recruiting, training, employment practices, labor relations, performance management, compensation, and legal compliance.
What You’ll Do
Employee & Labor Relations
- Advise district and branch management on employee relations topics including HR compliance (FLSA, EEO), disciplinary counseling, and terminations
- Conduct investigations and resolve workplace concerns
- Provide guidance on union avoidance and contract interpretation (with the Director of Labor Relations)
- Support employee satisfaction survey adoption and help management develop action plans to improve engagement
Recruiting & Staffing
- Manage regional recruiting efforts, including annual goals for college and diversity hires
- Partner with district/branch leaders to assess staffing needs, labor market trends, and sourcing strategies
- Oversee onboarding (orientation and follow-up) to ensure employees acclimate to new roles
Leadership Development & Assessment
- In collaboration with regional management, conduct annual assessments of high-potential candidates
- Create and monitor career development plans with management
HR Metrics
- Track and report key HR metrics (turnover, promotions)
- Partner with finance on analyses and continuous improvement recommendations
Training
- Assess regional training needs with region platform disciplines
- Coordinate with Corporate Training and the Region Trainer to deliver training programs
Performance Management & Compensation
- Audit/coordinate performance documentation with managers and employees
- Guide managers through employee improvement plans
- Administer the annual performance and compensation cycle for the region
- Advise on merit and bonus recommendations
- Ensure the region complies with budgets and HR guidelines
Program Implementation
- Help develop HR programs and implement them at the region level
- Provide project lead expertise as needed in collaboration with Corporate HR
Requirements
- BA/BS; PHR or SPHR certification preferred
- Minimum 5 years of broad, progressive HR generalist experience across recruiting, employee relations, employment practices, labor relations, learning/assessment, and compensation administration
- Strong experience resolving day-to-day employee relations matters for a high-volume, non-exempt population
- Experience in a multi-state, decentralized organization
- Experience in transportation/logistics, high-volume driver, or construction-related industry is a plus
- Proven success recruiting for a multi-state organization (sourcing, interviewing, selecting); applicant tracking system experience preferred
