This is a strategic-and-tactical “build-from-scratch” role focused on creating scalable HR systems, processes, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and manage HR operations for a multi-state US workforce and an international contractor base.
- Develop and maintain the Employee Handbook and corporate policies, ensuring alignment with evolving labor laws.
- Streamline and standardize the full employee lifecycle (onboarding to offboarding), including state-specific registrations and documentation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations across remote locations, using judgment to handle complex cases.
- Maintain HRIS data integrity and consolidate personnel records into a centralized system.
- Create an HR operations manual with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials to support growth.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, with strong emphasis on California labor requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience as an HR Generalist or HR Manager in a startup or small business environment.
- Proven experience managing HR operations for a fully remote workforce across multiple US states.
- Demonstrated expertise in California labor law compliance and employee relations.
- Deep knowledge of multi-state regulatory requirements and a track record of building HR workflows from scratch.
- Strong communication skills; ability to translate legal/compliance risk into actionable business guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of employment laws in Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, and/or Pennsylvania.
- Experience in an agency B2B services environment or high-volume outbound business model.
- Proficiency using AI tools for policy drafting, legal research, and compliance verification.
Compensation & Benefits
- $110,000–$140,000 USD annually (based on experience and geographic location)
- Full-time W2
- 100% remote
