About the role
Role Overview
Huckleberry Labs is hiring an HR Generalist for a part-time contract role (10–20 hours/week, 1099) on a remote basis. This is a dual-hat role combining traditional HR with people operations, focused on building fair, compliant people processes and leading performance feedback and employee experience initiatives.
Responsibilities
People Operations & Employee Experience
- Own the performance feedback cycle end-to-end: design the process, manage communications, track completion, and facilitate follow-ups.
- Help foster a culture of growth, collaboration, and innovation aligned with company values.
- Partner with team managers to set up systems that make team development consistent and effective, including support for performance conversations.
- Support employee engagement by identifying patterns, diagnosing root causes, and recommending improvements to how teams work together.
HR Compliance & Employee Relations
- Serve as a trusted, confidential resource for employee relations: listen empathetically, gather facts, investigate professionally, and guide to constructive resolutions.
- Ensure HR practices and policies are legally compliant with federal and state laws, including multi-state employee and contractor compliance.
- Use performance management as both a compliance and development tool, ensuring documentation meets legal standards.
- Maintain and improve HR processes and records to keep them accurate, organized, and compliant.
Requirements
- 5+ years of HR experience across traditional HR and people operations.
- Strong employee relations skills: confidentiality, tact, active listening, de-escalation, and root-cause identification.
- Solid understanding of HR legal compliance across multiple U.S. states, including employee and contractor classification.
- Systems thinking: build frameworks/processes rather than one-off reactive decisions.
- Proven ability to own projects end-to-end (system design through rollout and follow-up).
- Crisis management capability: calm under pressure; guide HR challenges compliantly and professionally.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable operating independently in a part-time, remote contract role.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of employer benefits administration, including annual open enrollment.
