HR Generalist (East Coast)
Avari is hiring a senior, hands-on HR Generalist to serve as a strategic HR partner for its East Coast region. You’ll advise regional and market leadership on people decisions, own employee relations and compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and rebuild HR processes and systems. The role offers real autonomy and is measured on judgment rather than ticket volume.
Responsibilities
- Strategic HR partnership

- Coach managers on people decisions to raise the HR capability across the region
- Provide cross-coverage to West Coast markets as needed (CA, UT, OR, WA) and review multi-state questions
- Employee relations & compliance
- Own employee relations end-to-end: intake, investigation, documentation, findings, and recommended action
- Guide performance improvement plans, corrective action, and separations with consistent standards
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across East Coast jurisdictions (including strong working knowledge of California requirements)
- Administer leaves of absence, accommodations, and the interactive process (FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation coordination, state leave programs)
- Keep handbooks, policies, postings, and job classifications current as new states/markets are added
- Proactively reduce risk by identifying patterns across cases and closing gaps
- HR systems, process & automation
- Automate recurring ADP Workforce Now reporting and run regular audits of system data, org structure, classifications, and employee records
- Own reporting and processing in Employee Navigator (benefits platform), ensuring reconciliation with ADP and carriers
- Replace manual processes (spreadsheets, email approvals, duplicate data entry) with durable workflows
- Core HR operations
- Own onboarding end-to-end (offer letters, background checks, I-9 & E-Verify, new hire paperwork, orientation, first-week follow-through)
- Maintain accurate employee records in ADP and partner with payroll on status/pay changes and pay-cycle accuracy
- Support benefits administration, open enrollment, and day-to-day employee questions
- Manage onboarding/offboarding and transactional HR volume for a multi-location workforce with high accuracy
Requirements
- 6+ years of progressive HR experience (ideally Generalist or HR Business Partner level or above)
- Hands-on ADP Workforce Now experience required (HRIS administration, custom reporting, data auditing)
- Extensive employee relations experience, including running investigations and advising on high-stakes separations
- Deep multi-state employment law and compliance knowledge, with good judgment on when to escalate to counsel
- Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate HR processes
- Strong Excel/data skills: build/run reports, interpret workforce metrics, and communicate findings to senior leadership
Nice to Have
- ADP Workforce Now Next Gen experience
