Hogan Engineer II

Role Overview

PenFed is hiring a Remote Hogan Engineer II for its Tysons, Virginia location. The role focuses on analysis, design, and implementation of Hogan application enhancements and production fixes in a core banking environment.

Location / Work Mode

• Remote (located anywhere in the United States)
• Associated with Tysons, Virginia location

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain COBOL programs and JCL (with guidance from senior engineers)
• Support API integration points and system integration efforts
• Perform SDLC activities: requirements analysis, technical design, coding, unit testing, and UAT support
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications for assigned Hogan modules
• Participate in Technical Review Board and peer reviews; adhere to coding standards and deliverable success criteria
• Provide production support for:
  • batch failures
  • online transaction issues
  • data reconciliation discrepancies
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software failures following standard operating procedures
• Collaborate on system modification designs involving:
  • Hogan modules
  • VSAM database structures
  • batch processing frameworks (phased implementation)
• Partner with business stakeholders, IT teams, and vendors to support initiatives and resolve technical challenges
• Follow change management, incident management, documentation standards, version control, and release management procedures
• Support testing teams with functional, regression, and performance testing strategies
• Analyze and resolve defects using logs/dumps/debugging tools (e.g., Expediter) with senior guidance as needed
• Maintain SLA commitments and high system availability ("first time right")
• Maintain and improve documentation; identify opportunities for operational efficiency
• Participate in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning
• Assist junior staff with technical problem research and capability building
• Join on-call 24x7 rotation as needed for outages/production incidents
• Stay current on Hogan systems, core banking technologies, and industry best practices

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
• In lieu of degree: 6+ years of related work experience required
