Head of Platform Engineering

Role Overview

Head of Platform Engineering at Ethena (full remote). Lead a lean team of DevOps Engineers, own the platform strategy, and contribute hands-on as a staff/principal-level engineer.

Responsibilities

• Evolve and operate a scalable, secure, high-performing platform.
• Lead and align platform strategy with business objectives.
• Drive infrastructure reliability, including incident management and continuous improvement.
• Strengthen security and compliance practices.
• Enhance developer experience and tooling.
• Improve cost efficiency and promote responsible infrastructure practices.
• Build and scale a high-performing DevOps team (mentoring, collaboration, continuous improvement).
• Design robust architectures and solve complex technical problems with code.
• Deliver complex, high-stakes infrastructure projects with strong prioritization and accountability.

Requirements

• Experience in cryptocurrency and centralized exchange (CEX) trading domain; experience with trading systems is a plus.
• Proven ability to build highly available, resilient services for low-latency, high-throughput environments (Kubernetes).
• Extensive platform engineering experience with hands-on expertise in:
  • AWS, GCP
  • Terraform (Infrastructure-as-Code)
  • Kubernetes (container orchestration)
  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Datadog
• Ability to craft and execute long-term platform strategies; reduce technical debt.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive leadership: identify/resolve infrastructure gaps, anticipate challenges, and drive improvements with ownership.
• Track record of delivering infrastructure initiatives on time with cross-functional collaboration.
• Thrives in a startup environment with a bias for action and measurable outcomes.

• Trading systems experience.
• Staff/principal-level hands-on engineering experience in platform roles.
