Head of Engineering

Role overview

Join Recare as Head of Engineering to shape engineering leadership structures, systems, and processes. You will scale the engineering organization from 6 to 10+ teams, build strong Engineering Managers, and ensure transparent communication across teams.

Key missions

• Build leadership structures: develop Engineering Managers and enable Tech Leads to maintain technical ownership.
• Scale engineering org: grow the organization while keeping teams aligned, empowered, and effective.
• Own people development at manager level: hire, coach, and support Engineering Managers around people development, team health, and delivery.
• Design scalable systems/processes: establish structures that allow multiple teams to collaborate effectively without bottlenecks.
• Stay close to engineering reality: run regular skip-level conversations with Tech Leads to maintain technical insight while preserving ownership.
• Monitor org health: track engineering organization health and support sustainable engineering growth.

Requirements

• Experience in engineering leadership and successfully scaling engineering teams in fast-growing product organizations.
• Deep technical expertise to engage in architecture and engineering discussions when needed.
• Strong familiarity with the current state of AI-native engineering, including the fast-changing nature of capabilities.
• Curious, pragmatic approach: ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and focus on solutions that work.
• Comfort operating with technical ownership: Tech Leads decide technically while you focus on leadership, systems, and alignment.
• Values honest feedback and continuous growth; promotes open communication.
• Leads through systems (processes enabling independent decision-making), not control.
• Clear and transparent communication: strategy sharing, risk reporting, and delivering difficult news with context.
• English proficiency and ability to operate in an international environment.
• Comfortable managing managers and developing Engineering Managers into strong leaders.

• Ongoing engagement with the AI frontier and the ability to invalidate/revise decisions as AI capabilities evolve quickly.
