Head of Engineering

Role overview

Head of Engineering at Lemon.io, owning engineering end-to-end during a pivotal shift from a services-driven marketplace to a technology-driven platform. You will be hands-on, partner directly with the founder and product team, and be accountable for the speed and quality of what ships.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and ensure engineering work maps to business impact
• Lead and grow an engineering team (5–30+ people), shipping fast and iterating constantly
• Make critical architecture and prioritization decisions (including what to build, skip, or kill)
• Tackle hard, multi-layered problems:
  • automated vetting
  • intelligent matching at scale
  • demand-side bottlenecks
• Work with the founder/product team to define what success looks like before writing code
• Build and reinforce an engineering culture focused on high ownership, high speed, and low bureaucracy
• Treat complexity as a cost and focus on leverage and simplicity

Requirements

• Product-minded, business-first mindset
• Strong prioritization and ability to drive architecture decisions
• First-principles approach and comfort being fast and action-oriented
• Experience leading engineering teams at a startup or high-growth environment
• Hands-on experience with modern stacks
• Comfortable working with AI/ML tooling
• Experience working in a distributed, async-first team

Nice-to-haves / signals

• Experience in AI-driven or ML-assisted product systems
• Familiarity with marketplace/platform scaling and matching systems
