Head of AI

Role Overview

Head of AI at AssetWatch is a central strategic leadership role reporting to the CEO. You will manage AI workstreams across the company, turn early AI experiments into governed and measurable operating capability, and lead the Data Science function with direct, hands-on involvement.

What You Will Do

• Define and Execute AI Strategy
  • Partner with executive leadership to define AssetWatch’s AI-native vision, operating model, and roadmap through 2027+.
  • Identify AI opportunities for competitive advantage, efficiency, and new customer value/revenue.
  • Keep the strategy current as AI capabilities, tooling, and vendor constraints evolve.
• Lead the AI and Data Science Organization
  • Build, lead, and develop teams across Machine Learning Engineering and AI Engineering.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain data scientists, ML engineers, and AI engineers.
  • Set ROI-based goals, technical standards, leadership coverage, and accountability as the org scales.
• Run Intake, Prioritization, and Governance
  • Clarify requests by outcome, owner, data dependencies, business impact, and build-vs-buy path.
  • Establish guardrails for AI tools, agents, model usage, data access, and acceptable use.
  • Set AI strategy and OKRs, translating them into measurable team goals with proven ROI.
• Advance ML, MLOps, and Applied AI
  • Guide development of physics-based models for reliability intelligence: anomaly detection, ranking, explainability, and alert quality.
  • Ensure production ML systems are monitored, repeatable, and operationally reliable.
  • Drive AI engineering for agentic workflows, internal productivity tools, and customer-facing experiences.
• Partner Across the Business
  • Work with Product and Engineering to scope AI opportunities into bets with owners and delivery paths.
  • Partner with GTM, Customer Success, and Operations to improve field workflows.
  • Collaborate with HR, finance, supply chain, and support to implement AI-driven automation.
• Measure Impact and Communicate Up
  • Define how AI impact is measured and connect investment to customer outcomes, efficiency, and revenue.
  • Provide a clear narrative to the CEO, board, and leaders on priorities, progress, and tradeoffs.
  • Evaluate vendors and tooling; recommend build/buy/combine.

What We Are Looking For

• Experience: 10+ years leading AI, machine learning, data science, or adjacent technical teams.
• Strategy track record: Proven ability to set technical strategy in fast-moving environments and deliver large-scale initiatives.
• Leadership: Experience managing cross-functional teams and partnering with senior executive stakeholders.
