About the role

Role Overview

Build and modernize scalable backend systems as a Go (Golang) Software Engineer in a microservices architecture. Work with senior engineers and collaborate with DevOps, product stakeholders, and business partners in a fast-paced, cloud-first environment.

Responsibilities

Design, build, test, deploy, maintain, and scale backend services using Go
Work with datastores and implement asynchronous, event-driven processing
Collaborate to identify needs, prioritize work, and plan development aligned with product goals
Understand business domains and how technical changes impact downstream systems and products
Diagnose and resolve production issues and defects with support teams

Requirements

Experience developing in a microservices architecture
Experience building cloud-hosted applications, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Experience with event-based or distributed systems
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD experience (explicitly mentioned)
Experience with observability/monitoring
Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
Self-motivated, able to work independently, with strong ownership from scope definition through production support

Nice to Have

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (desired but not required)
Exposure to AI/ML and/or training Large Language Models (LLMs)
Experience with specific data/storage tools such as Cloud Spanner and Mongo Atlas

Logistics / Location

Fully remote within the U.S.
Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL

Compensation

$65.00–$75.00/hr (contract)
