About the role
Role Overview
Contractor role (10–12 hours/week), remote, for experienced software engineers to train and evaluate next-generation AI systems through real-world software engineering tasks. No prior AI experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Work on backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems-related engineering tasks.
- Review, debug, improve, and explain code across different technical environments.
- Design and/or evaluate practical solutions involving:
- APIs, databases, services, integrations
- Testing and deployment workflows
- Assess and communicate tradeoffs across:
- Scalability, maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience
- Write clear technical reasoning (why a solution works and what alternatives were considered).
- Collaborate with the customer team on technical reviews and implementation decisions.
- Adapt quickly to unfamiliar codebases, frameworks, and requirements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Strong experience in at least one backend/full-stack environment, including Go/Golang (and/or Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Ruby, PHP, etc.).
- Experience building, maintaining, or reviewing production applications, including APIs/services, databases, and integrations.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and technical tradeoffs.
- Ability to explain complex engineering decisions clearly and objectively.
- Ability to read and reason through unfamiliar code/technical requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- CI/CD and DevOps workflows, containers, monitoring, or production operations.
- Frontend experience (React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, React Native).
- Open-source contributions or strong public engineering work; technical writing.
- Experience mentoring, reviewing code, or making architecture decisions.
