About the role
Role Overview
Contract software engineering role (10–12 hours/week, remote) to help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems using real-world software engineering tasks. You’ll work on backend, full-stack, systems, and infrastructure problems, with an emphasis on code reasoning, clear technical communication, and evaluating architecture and implementation quality.
Responsibilities
- Tackle challenging software engineering tasks across backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems.
- Review, debug, improve, and explain code in different technical environments.
- Design or evaluate solutions involving:
- APIs, databases, services, integrations
- Testing and deployment workflows
- Analyze and communicate tradeoffs across scalability, maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
- Write clear technical explanations (why a solution works; alternatives considered).
- Collaborate with the customer’s team on technical reviews and problem-solving exercises.
- Adapt quickly to new codebases, frameworks, and requirements.
Required Skills
- 5+ years hands-on software engineering experience.
- Strong backend/full-stack experience in at least one of:
- Go/Golang (primary), plus Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Ruby, PHP, or similar.
- Experience building/maintaining/reviewing production-level software, including APIs, services, databases, or integrations.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and tradeoffs.
- Ability to clearly and objectively explain complex engineering decisions.
- Comfortable reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code and technical requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud experience: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- CI/CD and DevOps workflows: containers, monitoring, production operations.
- Frontend experience with React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native.
- Open-source or public GitHub contributions; strong technical writing.
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting reviews, or making architecture decisions.
