General Counsel

Role Overview

Join Avalere Health as General Counsel, serving as the principal in-house legal advisor and a senior partner to the business. You will lead the Legal and Compliance functions, partner closely with the CFO, and provide practical, solutions-focused legal and compliance leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Senior business partnering: Advise the Group Leadership Team and functional leaders with clear, commercially grounded legal guidance.
• Team leadership & development: Lead, develop, and build Legal and Compliance capability, ways of working, tools, and priorities.
• Operational effectiveness & continuous improvement: Drive process improvements, stronger prioritization, better business partnering, and enhanced legal operations.
• Legal operations & technology: Improve efficiency through clearer processes, better use of technology, and automation.
• Contract management & governance: Oversee contract management and provide oversight across governance, compliance, and risk.
• Disputes & external counsel: Support complex client agreements, disputes, litigation matters, and manage relationships with external counsel.
• Culture of integrity & compliance: Promote and embed a culture of integrity and compliance across the organization.

Requirements

• Experience in professional services/consulting or similarly fast-paced, client-focused healthcare communications/agency-like environments.
• Demonstrated ability to balance commercial objectives with governance, compliance, and risk management.
• Strong knowledge of the UK, Europe, and US legal/regulatory landscape and experience managing multi-jurisdictional legal risk.
• Proven track record building and leading high-performing Legal and Compliance teams through change and transformation.
• Strong commercial contracting and negotiation skills, including complex client agreements, disputes, litigation, and external counsel oversight.
• Qualified solicitor with significant post-qualification experience, ideally 10+ years PQE.
• Strong business partnering skills influencing Executive Leadership Teams and Boards.

• Experience leveraging technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve legal operations.
• Proven experience operating as General Counsel or leading an in-house legal function in a complex international organization.
