About the role
Role Overview
Join Vineyard Technologies as a Game Developer Intern to help build a browser-based 2D Action RPG. You’ll work across rendering, gameplay systems, and the web shell that ships the game to players. This is an unpaid 12-week internship focused primarily on learning and career development.
What You’ll Do
- Implement gameplay features including:
- Combat, loot, inventory, and areas
- Build game UI using:
- React with TypeScript, Vite, and Tailwind CSS
- Integrate rendering via Pixi.js v8 / WebGPU
- Contribute to a Babylon.js WebGPU passive skill tree
- Work with player accounts and backend/data using:
- Firebase Auth
- Cloudflare Workers + D1
- Write Playwright end-to-end tests for new features
- Collaborate with full-time engineers using pull requests and async design discussions
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in college/university or recently graduated
- Working knowledge of TypeScript or JavaScript
- Comfortable with React (or similar component framework)
- Comfortable with Git and pull-request workflows
- Strong interest in action RPGs, classic 2D games, and game-systems design
- Self-motivated and able to make steady progress in a fully remote setting
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Pixi.js, Babylon.js, or another WebGPU/WebGL renderer
- Experience with Firebase, Cloudflare Workers, or other serverless backends
- Familiarity with Playwright or other end-to-end testing frameworks
- Evidence of personal projects (small game, mod, or playable demo)
