About the role
Role Overview
Full-time/part-time (part-time) Full Stack WordPress Developer working remote. You will maintain and improve WordPress multisites, collaborate with web services/DevOps processes, and help deliver secure, accessible, high-performing web experiences.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain WordPress multisites; recommend solutions and collaborate with the SPS web services team to resolve technical issues.
- Support DevOps workflows for testing, deployment/release management, and uptime.
- Set up and tune monitoring systems (e.g., ThousandEyes, New Relic, SolarWinds).
- Configure and maintain WordPress CMS for security and performance.
- Maintain version control for WordPress core, themes, and third-party plugins.
- Create, maintain, and back up databases.
- Plan and execute tasks for evaluating new website initiatives, including:
- new feature development
- troubleshooting/upgrades
- third-party solution updates and integrations with enterprise systems
- Ensure responsive design, cross-platform compatibility, and perform performance analysis/optimization.
- Communicate effectiveness of emerging technologies to decision makers.
- Ensure security, maintenance, and scalability.
- Apply security patches on a regular cadence based on disclosed vulnerabilities.
- Support WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance.
- Provide status reporting, performance measurement, retrospectives, and stakeholder communication.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a full stack WordPress developer.
- 5+ years professional web development experience.
- Strong development skills in PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS/HTML5.
- Experience with Git and source control.
- Experience building with APIs and RESTful services.
- Strong understanding of web accessibility and WCAG.
- Ability to navigate mid-project and post-development phases.
- Excellent organization, project management, communication, facilitation, and analytical/problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a K-12 academic environment.
- Experience in a public agency.
