About the role
Role Overview
Join Benchling as a Full Stack Software Engineer on the Enterprise Lifecycle team. This newly formed team focuses on helping Benchling’s largest customers succeed in regulated environments by delivering backend and full-stack features across compliance and lifecycle workflows, with opportunities to apply AI/LLMs to improve compliance operations.
Key Missions
- Design, develop, and deliver features and systems aligned with Benchling’s product and business goals across:
- Audit coverage
- Export systems
- Document lifecycle management
- Regulatory compliance workflows
- Own end-to-end delivery of significant projects (planning → development → deployment → maintenance → monitoring) across multi-sprint, multi-person initiatives.
- Explore AI/LLM opportunities to improve:
- Compliance workflows
- Audit reporting
- Regulatory navigation (high-accuracy use cases)
Responsibilities
- Lead technical solutions with attention to edge cases, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Deliver and operate systems across the full lifecycle, including deployment, maintenance, and monitoring.
- Collaborate effectively, including mentoring junior engineers and improving team productivity.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders by synthesizing project status.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a software engineer with demonstrated growth in scope and independence.
- Strong experience building backend systems and APIs for cloud-based web applications.
- Ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces involving tradeoffs.
- Comfort with frontend development and willingness to build full-stack solutions when needed.
- Experience delivering multi-sprint projects end-to-end (planning, task breakdown, tracking).
- Experience building software for highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and GxP (or similar).
- Exposure to audit logging, audit trails, or regulatory reporting capabilities.
- Interest in AI/LLM applications requiring high accuracy and reliability.
- Familiarity with data export systems or large-scale data processing.
- Python and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with document/content lifecycle management and related systems (e.g., version control).
- Experience with React (or similar JavaScript frontend frameworks).
Nice to Have
- Education or experience in life sciences / biotechnology / pharmaceutical sectors.
- Previous work in enterprise B2B SaaS.
