Full Stack Software Engineer 5 - Games Social Experiences

Role overview

Full Stack Software Engineer (L5) for Netflix Games, specifically the Games Social Experiences team. The team builds the social layer of Netflix Games—turning solo play into shared experiences—across TV UI, Web, Android, and iOS.

Responsibilities

• Design and build social features end-to-end: backend APIs and data models through to client-side UI.
• Build and evolve real-time social systems (e.g., social graph, friends, chat, multiplayer/social presence).
• Run and support large-scale A/B experiments and ship improvements at Netflix scale.
• Architect maintainable, performant, cross-platform services and UI with strong documentation.
• Increase consistency and simplicity across client and service codebases to accelerate experimentation velocity.
• Write automated tests to maintain quality and reliability.
• Partner cross-functionally with product management, experience design, and trust & safety to deliver accessible, delightful member experiences.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly and validate AI outputs.

Requirements

• Production experience as a full-stack engineer across at least two platforms: TV UI, Android, iOS, Web (and strong curiosity to cover all four).
• Experience architecting distributed backend services and scaling for high availability.
• Strong coding skills across multiple stacks, e.g.:
  • JavaScript/TypeScript
  • React
  • Kotlin and/or Swift
  • Server-side Java/Kotlin
• Strong judgment around trade-offs (latency, platform differences, user experience) and avoiding over-engineering.
• Deep care for quality, performance, and accessibility.
• Demonstrated fluency with GenAI/AI-assisted engineering tools and high learning velocity.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity, identify high-leverage opportunities, and drive technical roadmaps.
