Full Stack Ruby on Rails Software Engineer (Senior - Remote)

Role Overview

Brightline is seeking a Senior Full Stack Ruby on Rails Software Engineer (Remote) to help scale its core platform, build internal/external integrations, and evolve the data flows powering its clinical and billing infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate end-to-end on projects, with strong emphasis on backend systems, API design, and integrations
• Scope features with product and design, and ship completed features into production
• Develop across the stack (primarily Ruby + Rails; Turbo/Tailwind on the frontend)
• Balance heads-down development with pairing depending on project needs
• Maintain code quality through architecture discussions, automated testing, and code review
• Contribute a broader perspective to help the team grow and continuously improve

Requirements

• Motivation to improve behavioral health outcomes for children, teens, and families
• Strong cross-functional collaboration (e.g., product, marketing, clinical teams)
• Ownership mindset: see projects through even when work extends beyond code
• Thoughtful, empathetic communication and execution
• Experience building software professionally, primarily Ruby + Rails (or similar frameworks such as Python + Django)
• Enjoys full-stack work, with preference for backend logic, data modeling, and system architecture

Bonus Points

• Experience with healthcare/insurance domains, such as insurance billing, health system integrations, clinical workflows, referrals/coaching
• Experience building coaching or other APIs and integrating with third parties

Tech Stack (as described)

• Backend: Ruby on Rails
• Frontend: Turbo, Tailwind, ViewComponent; Stimulus; may use React when needed
• Frontend tooling/languages: TypeScript where beneficial; otherwise JavaScript
• Mobile: Hotwire Native

Compensation

• Annual base salary range (US): $149,000–$175,000 (plus equity, benefits, and other total rewards)
