About the role

Role Overview

Pivotal Health is hiring a Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack Product Engineer) on the AI/ML Engineering team to build new products from the ground up. The role is full stack but backend-leaning, focusing on owning product behavior end-to-end—especially across APIs, backend systems, data flows, and AI-enabled logic.

Responsibilities

  • Build 0→1 product experiences across backend services, APIs, integrations, and frontend workflows.
  • Design and implement backend systems for product logic, orchestration, data access, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Contribute to frontend product development using React, particularly where quality depends on tight frontend-backend iteration.
  • Collaborate with product, design, operations, and AI/ML partners to turn ambiguous ideas into shipped product.
  • Prototype quickly, then harden working solutions into maintainable product systems.
  • Build internal and customer-facing workflows using AI, structured data, and automation.
  • Help define product requirements through technical judgment (not just post-decision implementation).
  • Improve product quality via instrumentation, testing, thoughtful system design, and strong engineering hygiene.
  • Use AI actively for coding, debugging, investigation, product exploration, and iteration.
  • Help raise team velocity by adopting AI-native working habits and strong product instincts.

What Success Looks Like (6–12 months)

  • Ship meaningful new product capabilities quickly.
  • Take strong ownership of backend-heavy product surfaces with minimal oversight.
  • Turn vague opportunities into real, shipped workflows.
  • Improve product quality and speed through strong engineering execution.
  • Become a trusted technical partner and contribute to a team culture that uses AI to build and learn faster.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Strong ownership of product behavior end to end, with emphasis on APIs, backend systems, and data flows.
  • Comfortable operating in a high-ambiguity, high-velocity environment (not narrowly scoped tickets or maintenance-only work).
  • Ability to collaborate across product/design/operations/AI partners to move from ideas to shipped outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve product quality with instrumentation, testing, and solid engineering practices.
  • AI-first mindset: personally fluent with AI tools and able to use them to move faster and build stronger products.
