Role Overview

Join a team building next-generation, cloud-native applications that support critical initiatives for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain modern web applications hosted in AWS, transforming legacy systems into scalable and secure cloud solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Development
    • Build and maintain modern web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript and contemporary frontend frameworks
    • Create responsive, interactive UI for data-intensive applications
    • Develop backend services and RESTful APIs
    • Implement scalable data processing pipelines in AWS
    • Build interactive mapping/visualization capabilities
    • Produce reusable, maintainable, well-tested software components
  • Cloud Development
    • Design and implement cloud-native applications using AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, API Gateway, EKS, DynamoDB)
    • Develop scalable microservices for enterprise applications
    • Optimize performance, availability, and reliability in AWS
  • Software Engineering
    • Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
    • Participate in peer code reviews and follow engineering best practices
    • Develop unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
    • Troubleshoot issues across the full application stack
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with UX, DevSecOps, and subject matter experts

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of professional full-stack development experience
  • Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Experience with React, Angular, or Vue.js
  • Experience building responsive web apps with HTML5 and CSS3
  • Backend experience with Node.js, Python, or Java
  • Experience designing/developing RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with AWS and serverless architectures
  • Experience in microservices-based environments
  • Strong software engineering best practices
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Public Trust clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal programs or VA initiatives
  • Experience in regulated or security-focused environments
  • Experience with AWS services including EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB
  • Geospatial or data visualization experience
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience processing large datasets or real-time data streams
  • Experience working in Agile teams
