Full Stack Engineer

Role Overview

Roo is hiring a Full Stack Engineer (Software Engineer II) to design, build, and maintain features for its veterinary marketplace. You’ll collaborate across product, design, data, and engineering to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions and take ownership end-to-end.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and engineers to deliver technical solutions to business problems.
• Build and maintain features across the stack with a focus on scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code for the React Native mobile app and backend services.
• Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Lead by example through high-quality code, peer code reviews, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Own the testing lifecycle:
  • Unit tests with Jest
  • End-to-end tests with Cypress
• Investigate and resolve production issues; improve observability and platform reliability.
• Partner with DevOps/infrastructure teams on deployments, CI/CD, and system performance.
• Proactively improve tools, processes, and technologies.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Experience working on a growing team/early-stage startup preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to write complex SQL queries.
• Experience with Node, Express, React, AWS, and relational databases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with React Native, Redux, Next.js.
• Degree in Computer Science or relevant field.

Remote / Location

• Remote-first, with occasional travel to San Francisco for events/offsites.
• If based in San Francisco, the role is hybrid.
