Full-stack Engineer - Operations Engineering Team

Role Overview

Join iwoca’s Operations Engineering team as a Full-stack Engineer (Hybrid, London). You’ll build and improve internal systems that power the German operations team, including tools used daily by staff across underwriting, notifications, and account management.

Responsibilities

• Own high-impact projects end-to-end, from problem discovery through delivery and real-day usage.
• Design and build full-stack services supporting core operational workflows (e.g., customer communication, underwriting, and collections).
• Simplify workflows by deciding what to automate and translating operational needs into reliable code.
• Evolve system architecture by modernizing internal services while managing trade-offs for reliability and scale.
• Advocate for quality engineering practices through code reviews and design sessions, with a focus on staff/user experience.
• Expand your scope as the team grows by taking on leadership opportunities and developing commercial judgement.

Requirements (Essential)

• Proven experience designing and building backend systems in Python, with the ability to work across frontend codebases, especially React or TypeScript.
• Daily use of AI-assisted tooling (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code or similar) to accelerate boilerplate and research.
• Experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, including performance and maintainability considerations.
• Ability to use lateral thinking to anticipate technical challenges and improve complex workflow systems.
