About the role

Role Overview

Excel™ is hiring a Full Stack Engineer for a role that is 80% backend-focused. You’ll help build and standardize core internal platforms and business-critical systems, with primary evaluation on system architecture, microservices standardization, API design, security, and automated testing.

What You’ll Do

Build high-leverage revenue products
- Architect components of eBid (real-time bid management engine)
- Architect components of eMax (internal intelligence platform combining data insights with automated actions)
Standardize microservices architecture
- Unify frameworks, patterns, and deployment pipelines across services
- Drive adoption of OpenFaaS for event-driven and serverless workloads
Implement unified observability
- Design and deploy end-to-end distributed tracing using OpenTracing / OpenTelemetry
- Enforce microservice SLAs with improved system visibility
Harden security & quality
- Increase unit, integration, and contract testing coverage
- Improve overall application security posture
Refine data & API interfaces
- Design resilient RESTful APIs, asynchronous event pipelines, and clean DB schemas
Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend engineers, product managers, and stakeholders
Lead major technical initiatives (product creation, complex migrations, refactoring, modernization)
Mentor and elevate engineers with backend best practices and continuous improvement

Requirements

Strong expertise in Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, and AWS Cloud Services
Proven ability to deliver scalable backend systems and high-leverage platform improvements
Experience with microservices, API design, security hardening, and automated testing

Nice to Have

Experience/knowledge of OpenTelemetry/OpenTracing, OpenFaaS, distributed tracing and microservice SLAs
Background in backend test strategy (unit/integration/contract testing) and security posture improvements
