About the role

Role Overview

As a Full Stack Engineer on Data Surge’s Federal Services team, you’ll design, architect, and implement software systems for federal and government clients. The role emphasizes hands-on coding, total ownership, and close collaboration with product and engineering teams in a remote-first environment.

Day-to-Day Impact

Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs and backend services in Python and Django Rest Framework
Work with product designers and frontend engineers to deliver new web application features
Manage database schema changes and migrations
Collaborate with systems/DevOps to implement best practices for build, deployment, and CI/CD
Monitor systems and improve application performance and stability
Ensure smooth feature rollouts and updates

Essential Experience / Requirements

7+ years of full-time software engineering experience (preferably consulting)
Strong proficiency in Python
Experience with modern web APIs/frameworks, such as:
- REST, GraphQL, WebSocket, HTTP/3
- FastAPI and/or Django
Database experience across:
- Relational (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, SQL Server)
- NoSQL (e.g., Databricks, Clickhouse, Elasticsearch)
Containerization experience (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with deployment pipelines, including:
- Zero-downtime deployment
- A/B or multivariate testing
- Feature flags
Strong communication and attention to detail in a collaborative remote environment

Nice to Have (Kudos)

Frontend experience: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Vue.js, React SPAs, Next.js, Astro, Tailwind CSS
Interest in mastering the full stack including DevOps and frontend
Experience advocating test-driven development (TDD)
Prior clearance
