About the role

Role Overview

Chromatic is hiring a Full Stack Engineer to build and maintain the Chromatic web application and backend. The role focuses on customer-facing UI test and UI review workflows used by thousands of frontend teams.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain scalable, reliable systems in a TypeScript / Node.js / GraphQL / MongoDB stack
Own projects end-to-end: scope work, break features into units, and maintain delivery momentum
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure continuity between Chromatic and Storybook
Improve existing systems by identifying optimization, refactoring, and modernization opportunities
Participate in a team support rotation (primarily within business hours)
Stay current on software architecture and developer tooling trends to enhance the platform

Requirements

5+ years building full-stack web applications for production using React and Node.js
Ability to independently scope work, communicate progress, flag blockers early, and make sound technical/product trade-offs aligned with stakeholders
Strong communication in a distributed, asynchronous environment (clear written and verbal updates)
Accountable execution: consistent progress even when plans change
Strong interest in developer experience (DX) and experience shipping tools for developers or deeply understanding frontend team pain points

Nice to Have

Experience with Storybook or Chromatic
Experience working with GraphQL
Recent step into a senior role, or early-career engineer ready to level up
