Full Stack Engineer

Role Overview

Design and modernize grocery store checkout technology by replacing legacy C++ POS logic with responsive frontend interfaces and store-edge microservices. You’ll bridge Linux desktop-based terminal UIs with localized microservices running on store register hardware to improve checkout velocity, terminal stability, and transaction processing.

Responsibilities

• Frontend Terminal Engineering: Build and maintain high-performance checkout and payment-terminal interfaces using Flutter (Linux desktop focus), with React/React Native as additional support.
• Legacy Decoupling & Logic Migration: Analyze legacy C++ monolith logic and rewrite embedded business rules into containerized Go/Java microservices and modern Flutter UIs.
• Edge Integration & Peripherals: Integrate UIs with store-edge hardware/peripherals running on store-level Linux (e.g., barcode scanners, scales, payment pin pads, receipt printers).
• Microservice Bridging: Connect local register UIs to edge microservices deployed in containerized environments (Kubernetes/K3s) with fast local processing and offline fallback.
• Pipeline & Quality Assurance: Work with payment/software teams to create automated testing and release verification loops across physical hardware labs and simulated edge setups.

Requirements

• Flutter (Dart) Desktop UI: Strong Flutter experience, including desktop applications on Linux; React or React Native depth required.
• Linux Expertise: Deep knowledge of Linux (Debian/Ubuntu/RHEL), system-level interactions, desktop windowing/execution, and peripheral communication.
• Backend Microservices: Hands-on microservices development in Go (Golang) or Java (Spring Boot) for edge/high-concurrency scenarios.
• Containerization & Edge Infra: Experience with Docker and local Kubernetes distributions (K3s/MicroK8s) and edge deployment.
• API/System Design: Experience with REST, gRPC, and/or event-driven streaming between frontend and local microservices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to read and trace C/C++ code to extract business rules for migrations.
• Direct experience in retail POS / payment terminal platforms, including EMV and hardware integration labs.
• Dart FFI (or native bindings) to interface with low-level C drivers / Linux system calls.
• Experience building automated CI/CD and hardware-bound integration test pipelines (e.g., JBehave/custom harnesses).
