About the role
Role overview
Join Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust to help shape and scale two live products: ARC (leadership platform) and Swaya (student feedback app). This role is designed for product ownership—building what real users need and improving a solid existing codebase.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive development of ARC and Swaya: quality, roadmap, and delivery
- Work directly with the founders on product direction
- Improve an existing Rails + React codebase
- Manage iOS and Android app updates
- Solve real UX problems and ship improvements users notice
- Think and operate as a product-minded developer (not just tickets)
Requirements
- Strong Ruby on Rails experience in production
- Solid React frontend skills with genuine UI/UX quality focus
- Mobile app experience with iOS and Android (e.g., React Native, Flutter, or native)
- Product-thinking mindset (focus on outcomes, not only tasks)
- Comfortable with ambiguity; honest about what you don’t know; quick to learn
- UK-based with the right to work without sponsorship
Nice to have / context
- Experience working closely with founders / early product direction
What you offer / working model
- Start at 0.6 FTE, with a clear path to full-time as products grow
- Remote-first, with occasional in-person days in the UK Midlands

Compensation
- £25,200–£30,000 for the role (pro-rata, based on £42,000–£50,000 FTE)
