About the role

Role overview

Join Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust to help shape and scale two live products: ARC (leadership platform) and Swaya (student feedback app). This role is designed for product ownership—building what real users need and improving a solid existing codebase.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive development of ARC and Swaya: quality, roadmap, and delivery
  • Work directly with the founders on product direction
  • Improve an existing Rails + React codebase
  • Manage iOS and Android app updates
  • Solve real UX problems and ship improvements users notice
  • Think and operate as a product-minded developer (not just tickets)

Requirements

  • Strong Ruby on Rails experience in production
  • Solid React frontend skills with genuine UI/UX quality focus
  • Mobile app experience with iOS and Android (e.g., React Native, Flutter, or native)
  • Product-thinking mindset (focus on outcomes, not only tasks)
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; honest about what you don’t know; quick to learn
  • UK-based with the right to work without sponsorship

Nice to have / context

  • Experience working closely with founders / early product direction

What you offer / working model

  • Start at 0.6 FTE, with a clear path to full-time as products grow
  • Remote-first, with occasional in-person days in the UK Midlands
  • Public sector pension and holiday entitlement
  • CPD budget and encouragement to develop skills

Compensation

  • £25,200–£30,000 for the role (pro-rata, based on £42,000–£50,000 FTE)
