About the role

Role Overview

Lead Software Engineer (Marketplace Engineering) on a team building and enhancing the core platform for automotive purchasing at large scale. The role focuses on revitalizing customer-facing tooling, defining technical strategies, and leading cross-functional delivery across web and mobile.

Responsibilities

Champion engineering best practices across software design, operational maturity, and quality assurance
Lead and mentor development teams; foster continuous improvement and technical excellence
Collaborate with platform/feature/mobile teams to determine technical needs and constraints
Guide server-driven UI architecture work, including flexible search interfaces
Drive integration of agentic AI technologies to improve personalization and recommendations
Define operational metrics, alerting, and runbooks to ensure reliability
Participate in release planning; automate deployments and mitigate deployment risks
Align engineering efforts with business objectives through strong cross-functional partnerships
Identify and resolve technical blockers; escalate issues when needed
Contribute to scalable backend systems supporting high-performance web and mobile experiences

Requirements

8+ years of software engineering experience
Strong frontend skills: JavaScript, TypeScript, Web Components, and React/Vue/Svelte
Solid browser fundamentals: HTML, CSS, DOM, plus performance optimization
Experience using browser developer tools for layout, tracing, and performance profiling
Strong understanding of backend architectures and architectural patterns
Proven leadership in cross-functional initiatives and mentoring
Experience with component-based design systems, theming, responsiveness, and accessibility
Passion for UX, developer ergonomics, and performance metrics (e.g., Core Web Vitals)
Excellent communication skills
Ability to operate with high autonomy and influence technical strategy across teams
