About the role

Role Overview

Yahoo Media Platforms is seeking a Frontend Software Engineer II to build and operate shared services and experiences that power content delivery across Yahoo’s product portfolio. The role is primarily frontend-focused (React/Next.js), but expects full-stack sensibilities, including comfort working with APIs, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain performant frontend components and pages using React and Next.js within a server-rendered architecture
  • Develop and integrate with GraphQL APIs using Apollo Client to fetch and render content experiences
  • Build and maintain backend services and APIs that support the frontend (full-stack when needed)
  • Create reusable, accessible UI components aligned with the Yahoo Universal Design System (UDS)
  • Write clean, testable, reliable code and deploy continuously to large-scale production systems
  • Implement comprehensive tests with Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright
  • Collaborate on GraphQL schema/data contracts that power the frontend experience
  • Optimize frontend performance (bundle size, render speed, lazy loading, caching) for high-traffic pages
  • Take end-to-end ownership of key features: implementation, deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability
  • Support CI/CD using GitHub Actions
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and data to deliver user-facing features
  • Help shape implementation approaches and resolve open questions with senior engineers

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience (as stated)
  • Strong foundation in modern React development
  • Comfort working beyond the UI layer (APIs, backend services, and cloud infrastructure)
  • Degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with all/most tools listed is not required; curiosity and willingness to learn are valued
  • Demonstrated pride in clean design, good questioning, and positive team impact
