Frontend Software Development Engineer

Role overview

You’ll join the modernization team as a Staff Frontend Software Development Engineer, leading the transformation of legacy CVS pharmacy systems into a modern cloud-native platform on Google Cloud (GCP). You’ll shape the patient and drug user experience by building intuitive, scalable, and robust web interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop advanced web applications using React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Establish and enforce frontend best practices, including performance optimization and maintainability.
• Lead initiatives to improve frontend security (protecting against common vulnerabilities).
• Design, implement, and evaluate end-to-end testing strategies and frameworks to ensure code quality.
• Collaborate with backend and design teams to deliver seamless integration and user experience.
• Contribute to CI/CD process improvements and reliable deployment workflows.
• Support adoption of JxBrowser (hybrid web application development).
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• 7+ years frontend development experience with React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• 7+ years driving frontend best practices in large-scale environments.
• 3+ years designing/implementing frontend testing frameworks/strategies (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Playwright).
• 3+ years working with CI/CD pipelines and workflows.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong frontend security knowledge: XSS prevention, secure cookies, and CORS.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive design.
• Familiarity with microservice architecture and distributed systems best practices.

Preferred

• Experience with JxBrowser (or similar) for hybrid web applications.

Location / Work model

• Hybrid preferred in Woonsocket, RI or Hartford, CT.
• Remote may be considered for qualified candidates outside close proximity.
