Frontend Engineer & UI Designer (Developer Tooling)

Role Overview

Frontend Engineer & UI Designer focused on developer tooling. You will design and build user-facing product surfaces end-to-end—no handoffs—owning features from Figma mockups to merged pull requests.

What You’ll Do

• Design and ship UI features as production code (ViewComponents, Stimulus controllers, Tailwind).
• Own the dashboard experience:
  • usage analytics
  • request history
  • billing
  • API keys
  • make data-dense interfaces feel calm and usable
• Build interactive API playgrounds where developers run real requests and view live structured JSON.
• Own docs and marketing experiences.
• Create honest data visualizations developers can trust at a glance (semantic, consistent color system).
• Maintain UI craft and coherence as the product grows (fast, beautiful, consistent component system).
• Keep the stack performant and clean:
  • prefer native HTML first
  • use Turbo Frames instead of client-side SPA state when appropriate
  • control the JavaScript bundle (remove dead CSS, avoid one-off controllers)

Requirements / What You’ll Need

• Strong UI taste and the ability to translate designs into clean, coherent components.
• Capability to ship Hotwire-first front-end work (Turbo/Stimulus/native HTML) with production discipline.
• Ability to deliver SPA-like polish without defaulting to React-style patterns.
• Good judgment around tradeoffs: decide what gets polish vs. what ships “good-enough,” based on real usage.
• Comfort owning wide surface area: dashboard, playground, docs, and marketing as a single owner.
• Discipline to write tests and ensure changes pass review.

Nice to Have

• Experience working in developer tools for demanding audiences.
• Familiarity with using AI tooling (e.g., Cursor/Claude) to iterate faster while maintaining high craft.
