About the role

Role Overview

Stripe is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Merchant Experience team. You’ll define and execute the technical vision for merchant-facing experiences across Stripe, directly impacting the Stripe Dashboard and tools used by millions of businesses.

Responsibilities

Define technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences, focusing on quality, performance, and AI integration
Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex, cross-team projects to improve reliability and responsiveness
Establish engineering standards, tooling, and processes for high-quality, performant UI development
Drive performance improvements through instrumentation, architectural enhancements, and optimization
Innovate on future merchant UX paradigms by exploring AI-driven interaction models and prototypes
Build scalable platforms/frameworks/abstractions that improve engineering productivity and enforce best practices
Collaborate with Product, Design, AI/ML, and Infrastructure to translate product vision into technical roadmaps
Mentor and develop engineering talent, raising the technical bar and strengthening engineering culture

Requirements

10–15+ years of software engineering experience
Proven track record shipping large-scale, user-facing web applications
Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact
Deep expertise in modern frontend development, especially React
Strong understanding of full-stack architecture
Ability to improve software quality and performance metrics
Strong communication skills to articulate technical vision
Experience with design systems, component libraries, or frontend platform infrastructure
Familiarity with performance engineering (profiling, instrumentation, optimization)
Experience deploying at global web scale (CDN, bundling, browser compatibility)
Comfort across the full stack: APIs, backend services, and data layers
Knowledge of distributed systems, API design, and platform development
Passion for developer experience and productivity tooling
Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities into user-facing products
