Frontend Engineer (Js, API)

Role overview

Staff Frontend Engineer (MTS 2) to help build eBay Live, eBay’s live shopping platform. You will shape real-time, high-performance frontend experiences that enable interaction between buyers and sellers.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex requirements into robust, maintainable, scalable frontend designs
• Develop and deliver eBay Live features with strong responsiveness and accessibility
• Guide technical decisions and influence cross-domain teams
• Lead efforts to improve team productivity and engineering velocity
• Design flexible solutions for future changes and evolving requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality features
• Support evidence-centered design to enhance testability and continuous delivery
• Manage delivery: break down tasks, resolve issues, and drive feature completion
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor team members
• Contribute to architecture decision records (ADRs) and technical documentation
• Identify system gaps, propose solutions, and help drive engineering roadmap initiatives
• Own engineering support including deployment and on-call for a 24/7 platform

Requirements

• 8+ years of front-end system design and development
• Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, and server-side rendering frameworks
• Experience with REST and GraphQL API integrations
• Familiarity with UI libraries such as Material UI or Angular Material
• Strong CSS approach using BEM plus Webpack and Express.js
• Experience contributing to common libraries and reusable components
• Track record designing scalable, distributed, highly available systems
• Experience leading complex software delivery and backend integration

Nice-to-haves

• Open-source/UI library contributions (implied by “Contributions to common libraries”)
• Direct experience with live/real-time interaction platforms (implied by eBay Live focus)
