About the role

Role overview

Instil is seeking a Frontend Engineer (Mid–Senior level) to help raise the bar on product quality, user experience, and technical execution. You’ll build polished, high-performance user experiences across the Instil platform and help shape the frontend architecture, standards, and engineering culture.

Responsibilities

Build and ship high-quality frontend experiences across Instil’s core product
Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineering to deliver intuitive workflows
Help evolve frontend architecture, patterns, and standards
Build reusable UI components and contribute to a scalable design system
Improve performance, accessibility, responsiveness, and overall UX
Strengthen testing practices, code quality, and development workflows
Use AI-enabled development tools to improve speed and efficiency
Help design and build AI-powered product experiences (model-driven workflows/outputs)
Contribute ideas and make smart product and technical decisions

Requirements

4–8 years of experience building modern web applications
Strong React and TypeScript experience
Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as Next.js (plus)
Solid fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience building reusable UI components/systems/design libraries
Frontend testing experience with Jest or Vitest; E2E testing with Playwright or Cypress
Familiarity with REST and/or GraphQL APIs
Strong instincts for usability, performance, accessibility, and responsive design
Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership
Experience using AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows
Familiarity building AI-powered features (e.g., LLM-based experiences, prompt workflows, model-backed interfaces)
Strong communication and collaborative, low-ego working style

Nice to have

React Query or Relay
AWS experience
Designing UX around AI features (review states, confidence, iteration, fallbacks)
Experience across both startup and more established software environments
Interest in mission-driven products / nonprofit space

Work setup

Remote-first, with preference for candidates based in or around the Los Angeles area.
