About the role
Role overview
Join Code Metal as a Senior Front-End Engineer to own and ship a dynamic geospatial web application. You’ll build interactive GIS UI workflows, improve UI performance and reliability, and collaborate closely with backend engineers to define contracts and move work forward.
Key missions
- Build and deliver end-to-end front-end features in a TypeScript/React codebase.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to define API contracts and unblock progress.
- Improve UI performance and frontend reliability for a mission-critical environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years building production React applications (TypeScript strongly preferred).
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; able to unblock yourself.
- Experience with complex, interactive UIs, including:
- state management
- async flows
- performance considerations
- Comfortable working in a shared codebase with standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with component libraries and design systems (uses MUI / Material UI).
- Some backend familiarity to understand APIs, debug issues, and collaborate smoothly.
Nice-to-haves
- Geospatial/GIS experience (e.g., Cesium, map-heavy UIs, geo data interactions).
- Experience with simulation-style or real-time-ish workflows (e.g., gaming, visualization, mapping, flight/vehicle systems).
- Python experience (helpful for cross-stack collaboration).
