About the role

Role Overview

You’ll join Volta’s platform engineering team to build and operate the user-facing parts of the product: the web console, customer-facing APIs (from a frontend integration perspective), and infrastructure-as-code interfaces (e.g., Terraform modules) as they relate to the console experience. Users are engineers running large training and inference workloads who care about information density, speed, and accuracy of cluster state.

Responsibilities

  • Build and extend the Volta web console for:
    • Capacity and cluster views
    • Provisioning workflows
    • Quota and usage
    • Access management
    • Operational visibility into customer environments
  • Implement and iterate from UX designs, providing technical feedback on feasibility, performance, and edge cases before designs finalize.
  • Collaborate on API integration with platform engineers and contribute to the integration layer as part of the team.
  • Act as the consumer voice on API design by surfacing awkward endpoint shapes, missing states, and unclear errors while changes are still inexpensive.
  • Own the frontend codebase end to end, including:
    • Component structure and state management
    • Styling and accessibility
    • Testing and performance
  • Handle hard product states correctly, including:
    • Partial data
    • Long-running provisioning operations
    • Streaming telemetry
    • Permission-scoped views
    • Multi-tenant boundaries (where incorrect display is a security risk)
  • Contribute to frontend tooling and build pipelines, quality standards, and generated API clients driven from a schema.
  • Support developer-facing overlap (where applicable): documentation examples and consistent error messaging across console and API.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions in an Agile (Kanban or Scrum) environment.
  • Support production, including triaging customer-reported console issues.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of professional frontend development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, with solid HTML and CSS fundamentals.
  • Deep experience with at least one modern component framework (e.g., React or Vue) and comfort adapting to the team’s chosen stack.
  • Strong understanding of component design, state management, and frontend performance, especially with asynchronous and frequently changing data.
  • Comfortable consuming REST or GraphQL APIs and collaborating with backend engineers on integration.
  • Able to work from UX direction while confidently pushing back when real data breaks a design.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals (clean code, testing, version control).

Nice-to-haves (implied)

  • Experience with streaming telemetry, long-running workflows, and multi-tenant/permission-scoped UI.
  • Experience generating API clients from schemas and improving frontend tooling/quality standards.
