Role overview

Create solution architectures for front-end systems and platforms, exploring options for time, cost, and compliance against company standards while meeting business requirements. Oversee other architects and guide solution delivery for clients (internal and external), shepherding work through the relevant governance.

Responsibilities

  • Work with discipline leads/managers and clients to design code architecture
  • Optimize existing code for maintainability and testability
  • Prioritize work intake to keep the team focused on the highest-impact initiatives
  • Initiate, organize, and drive development efforts across a shared codebase
  • Lead solution design discussions with external teams while representing client needs
  • Participate in team vision and strategy exercises
  • Identify team and organizational pain points and proactively resolve them
  • Consult on potential new projects, including presenting to clients and estimating timelines, risk, and feasibility
  • Provide alternate solution approaches when proposals aren’t feasible

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience with 2+ years in an architect role
  • Experience leading project teams of ~5–6 members in Scrum (or another Agile methodology)
  • Strong web fundamentals: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Deep understanding of JavaScript framework tradeoffs (e.g., React, Angular, Vue) and JSON
  • Expertise in state management (e.g., Redux Toolkit, MobX, or similar)
  • Experience with templating engines (e.g., Mustache, FreeMarker, Razor)
  • Strong responsive design knowledge, browser behavior/compatibility, and cross-browser optimization/troubleshooting
  • Front-end performance optimization knowledge (e.g., compression, sprites)
  • Knowledge of common design patterns and programming models
  • Understanding of front-end/back-end data modeling relationships
  • Experience implementing custom visualization (data/graphics/animations)
  • Experience implementing layouts into functioning interactive designs using a grid framework
  • Experience building complex functional components and integrating into Storybook; running Chromatic
  • Experience integrating third parties such as Azure for Single Sign-On and other APIs
  • Ability to analyze performance (e.g., profilers)
  • Ability to design and implement code modules using best practices for junior developers
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, performance tuning, and optimization skills
  • Knowledge of front-end optimization tools (e.g., JS compression) and gzip/web compression
  • Familiarity with tag management tools (e.g., GTM/Adobe Launch/etc.)
  • Experience with source control tools (e.g., Git, SVN, Ant, Maven)
  • Ability to lead client-facing interactions
