Front End Software Engineer II

Role Overview

Front End Software Engineer II (Web Developer) working remotely as a front-end web development expert. You will build intuitive, fast, and accessible web applications that communicate AI2’s research and initiatives to the public.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain engaging, accessible, high-performance web applications
• Collaborate with communications, research, and engineering teams to create websites and research portals
• Implement user-centered designs to improve usability and web accessibility
• Support development of research demos and internal tools for presenting and organizing data
• Assist with deploying and maintaining web infrastructure and support continuous improvement
• Participate in technical discussions to brainstorm solutions to web development challenges
• Stay current with emerging web technologies and best practices

Requirements

• 2+ years building high-quality web applications
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Understanding of web browser mechanics, HTTP, and client-side vs server-side execution
• Experience collaborating with product and design teams
• Basic knowledge of UNIX tools (e.g., git, bash)
• Ability to understand other languages (e.g., Go and Python) and how they differ from JavaScript
• Demonstrated focus on UX and accessibility
• Self-directed with strong communication skills

Nice to Have / Additional Interests

• Interest or experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Webpack
