Front End Engineering Manager (Firefox Desktop)

Role overview

Lead a geographically distributed engineering team to improve the Firefox Desktop user interface. As a Front End Engineering Manager, you’ll drive delivery of high-quality front-end software while navigating trade-offs, risk, and team processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers to continuously improve the Firefox Desktop UX.
• Set team goals, communicate scope and risks, and ensure initiatives are delivered on clear timelines.
• Identify, build, and iterate on engineering processes that support high-performing teams.
• Drive technical decisions and collaborate with engineers across all seniority levels (triage, prioritize, implement).
• Participate responsibly and create an inclusive, relationship-minded environment.
• Support front-end initiatives including architecture improvements and design systems.
• Enable engineering practices that foster the use of AI in Frontend teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and shipping sophisticated user-facing experiences on time, using data to inform timelines.
• Front-end platform experience (e.g., design systems, frontend architecture improvements).
• Strong software engineering background to drive technical decisions and collaborate with engineers.
• 4+ years leading engineers and working across multiple distributed teams.
• Track record delivering front-end experiences to user-facing products.
• Ability to manage risk, lead change, and facilitate collaborative decision-making.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships regardless of rank.
• Experience leading multiple concurrent projects.
• Demonstrated capability to hire, mentor, empower, develop, and delegate to distributed team members.
• Hands-on web technologies: JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
• Experience communicating with senior leadership and advocating for engineering priorities.
• Open-source environment experience.
