Front-End Engineer (React Native / Expo)

Role overview

Front-End Engineer (React Native / Expo) for a partner company, working in a product-focused environment to build and enhance modern web and mobile experiences. The role will help develop a high-visibility Progressive Web Application (PWA) and integrate it with backend services.

Responsibilities

• Build, enhance, and maintain a React Native + Expo PWA
• Create responsive, intuitive, visually engaging UIs based on product/design specifications
• Integrate front-end functionality with GraphQL APIs and backend services
• Implement authentication and authorization using AWS Cognito
• Develop features for event discovery, search, calendars, user profiles, and membership management
• Implement client-side state management and local data storage solutions
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver features
• Perform testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and support production readiness
• Optimize performance, scalability, and usability across web and mobile
• Participate in code reviews and front-end architecture planning

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional Front-End Engineering experience
• Strong hands-on expertise in React, React Native, JavaScript, and TypeScript
• Experience building and deploying apps using Expo
• Proven experience with Progressive Web Applications (PWAs)
• Solid understanding of GraphQL and integrating API-driven applications
• Experience implementing authentication/authorization in modern applications
• Strong knowledge of front-end architecture, design patterns, and state management
• Experience building data-intensive applications with multiple service integrations
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced product development

Nice to have

• AWS Amplify experience
• Familiarity with AWS AppSync
• Experience with membership/ticketing/booking/scheduling/marketplace platforms
• Startup or early-stage product development experience
• Experience optimizing performance across web and mobile

Contract & benefits

• Fully remote
• Initial 8-week contract, with strong possibility of extension
• Pay: up to $80/hour (W2) or up to $88/hour (1099)
