Front End Engineer (React.js, UX)

Role Overview

Staff Front End Engineer for Motional’s Web Visualization Tooling team. You will build and maintain mission-critical web tooling and visualization systems that tighten the feedback loop for machine learning engineers and improve the performance and adaptability of autonomous vehicle systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of scalable, high-performance frontend solutions
• Own and drive collaboration to deliver timely project outcomes
• Architect and scale a modern frontend ecosystem using React/TypeScript and Vue
• Collaborate with ML, UX, data services, and data annotation teams to align tooling with real-world workflows
• Build and maintain internal UI systems for complex, data-intensive workflows
• Design user experiences for data-heavy processes
• Apply frontend best practices for performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Ship features rapidly and iterate based on feedback in a product-driven environment
• Mentor junior engineers and delegate tasks
• Document technical designs and solutions thoroughly

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript and modern frontend architecture
• Experience with Vue.js
• Strong UX principles and usability understanding
• Ability to work independently with high ownership and autonomy
• Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills
• Experience designing/building data-heavy, complex workflows
• Strong technical documentation and design habits
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally (ML, UX, data services, data annotation)
• Excellent organizational skills and willingness to learn quickly

Nice to Have

• Project management experience and/or familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Backend experience (e.g., Node.js or Python)
• Background in game development or 3D visualization
• Experience working directly with customers to identify needs and develop solutions
