About the role
Role Overview
American Specialty Health is hiring a Front End Engineer II for its Software Engineering department. You will build and maintain mobile-first single page apps, collaborate with front-end and API engineers, and support designers and product owners. The role also includes mentoring Associate Front End Engineers and interns.
Responsibilities
- Develop mobile-first single page applications using Ember.js across devices and environments.
- Convert mockups and wireframes into clean, maintainable, and reusable components (Ember-based).
- Maintain and write new JavaScript and legacy plugins.
- Ensure accessibility (508 compliance) and cross-browser/platform/device compatibility.
- Lint, evaluate, and test JavaScript; follow code standards.
- Assist with discovery, diagnosis, and debugging of issues in the development environment.
- Participate in Front End and Scrum team meetings.
- Maintain code libraries and document technical specifications.
- Research solutions; contribute to code standards and code reviews.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience (high school diploma required if using equivalent experience).
- 2+ years developing and architecting single page applications using a JavaScript framework such as Ember, Angular, or React, and consuming RESTful/JSON APIs.
- Experience building mobile-first websites with fluid layouts.
- Strong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for clean, reusable, optimized code.
- Experience creating reusable components (e.g., Web Components or framework components across apps).
- 1 year writing ES2015 and Node.js.
- Experience with Gulp.js (or similar build tools).
- Experience writing unit, integration, and UI/acceptance tests.
- Working knowledge of Agile environments.
- Solid JavaScript concepts: prototypical inheritance, functional programming, closures, asynchronous programming, types, and promises.
- Ability to architect entire SPA systems with reusable components and understand models and DDAU-style programming.
- Ability to profile and debug client-side behavior end-to-end and explain reproduction steps.
- Demonstrated focus on performance and user experience.
- Stay current on Web APIs and modern HTML features.
Nice to Have
- Ember.js experience preferred.
