About the role

Role Overview

The Front-End Developer will design, develop, test, and maintain responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web applications for a remote federal program. The role works closely with Product Owners, Federal Project Managers, Business Analysts, UX/UI Designers, Solution Architects, Back-End Developers, and QA to deliver intuitive user interfaces that meet business, technical, and accessibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain responsive, mobile-first web applications using modern front-end frameworks.
Implement UI using the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) to meet Federal design and usability standards.
Translate UI/UX designs, wireframes, and requirements into high-quality, accessible interfaces.
Develop reusable UI components, templates, and front-end libraries for scalability and maintainability.
Integrate with RESTful APIs and back-end services.
Ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
Optimize performance, browser compatibility, and overall user experience.
Collaborate with UX/UI to implement design systems, branding, and responsive layouts.
Participate in Agile activities (backlog refinement, sprint planning, code reviews, sprint demos, CI).
Troubleshoot UI defects, accessibility issues, and performance bottlenecks.
Create and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; document technical designs and standards.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of experience developing enterprise web applications.
Strong proficiency with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
Experience with React, Angular, or Vue.js.
Mobile-first responsive development using modern CSS (Flexbox, CSS Grid).
Experience implementing USWDS (or similar enterprise design systems).
Experience integrating RESTful APIs and JSON services.
Accessibility experience compliant with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA.
Familiarity with Git, Agile/Scrum, and modern development practices.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting Federal Government web applications.
Experience with Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS, Material Design, or other component libraries.
Front-end testing frameworks: Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Selenium.
Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker, and cloud-hosted apps.
Knowledge of OWASP secure coding and DevSecOps principles.
